1. About these terms

These terms apply to your use of the website at www.lexia.co.za (the “website”), including the early-access registration offered through it. The website is operated by LexIA (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2026/768266/07 (“LexIA”, “we”, “us”). By using the website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the website.

2. This website and the future LexIA product are separate

These terms cover only:

• this website, which provides information about LexIA and its development; and
• the early-access list, through which you can register your interest in LexIA.

They are not an end-user licence agreement, a subscription or software-as-a-service agreement, or product or commercial terms for the future LexIA application. If LexIA is made available to you, its use will be governed by separate terms that we will provide at that time and that you will need to accept separately.

3. LexIA is in development

LexIA is an AI-powered legal billing assistant that is currently in development and not yet available for general use.

• Descriptions, screenshots, illustrations and demonstrations on the website show work in progress or planned functionality, and may use sample data.
• Features are labelled “In development build”, “In development” or “Planned” to show their status. None of them is generally available.
• LexIA’s features, functionality, design, availability, pricing and commercial offering may change before release, and some features may not be released at all.
• We have not announced pricing, plans or a launch date.

4. Early-access registration

Registering for early access lets us keep you informed about LexIA. Registering:

• does not guarantee an invitation to beta testing, early access or access to the commercial product;
• does not guarantee free or discounted access, or any particular price;
• does not guarantee a particular launch date;
• is not a purchase, and does not create a subscription or any other agreement to supply LexIA; and
• does not oblige you to use or buy LexIA.

We may decide whom to invite to any testing programme, and we may change or close the early-access list at any time. Our Privacy Notice explains how we handle the information you submit.

5. No legal or professional advice

Nothing on the website is legal, tax, accounting or other professional advice, and nothing on the website creates an attorney-client relationship.

LexIA is being developed as a tool to assist legal practitioners with administration. It does not replace the professional judgment or responsibilities of a legal practitioner. Practitioners remain responsible for their own billing, fees, tariffs, VAT, and compliance with the rules of their professional body and the applicable court rules.

Descriptions or demonstrations of AI-assisted functionality on the website are illustrations only. They should not be treated as legal advice or relied on without appropriate professional review.

6. Information on the website

We make reasonable efforts to keep the information on the website accurate and up to date. Because LexIA is still in development, the information is provided for general information only, may be incomplete, and may change without notice. References to court tariffs, billing methods, security safeguards or other functionality describe our development intentions and are not guarantees.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the website for any unlawful purpose or in breach of these terms;
• submit false information, or information about another person without their permission;
• submit confidential client information through the registration form;
• attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website or the systems that support it, or interfere with their operation; or
• copy, scrape or reproduce the website’s content other than for personal, non-commercial reference.

8. Intellectual property

The LexIA name, wordmark, monogram, tagline “Your Practice. Amplified.”, website design, text and images belong to LexIA or its licensors and are protected by law. You may not use them without our prior written permission.

9. Third-party services and links

The website relies on third-party services to operate, including Netlify, which hosts the website, and Google Forms, which we use for early-access registration. The website may also link to other third-party websites. We do not control these services, and their availability may affect the website. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you use them, and we are not responsible for their content or practices.

10. Limitation of liability

Please read this section carefully. It limits LexIA’s liability to you.

10.1 The website is provided free of charge, for information purposes, on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not promise that the website will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors.

10.2 To the extent permitted by applicable South African law, LexIA, its directors and its employees are not liable for any loss or damage arising from:

• your use of, or inability to use, the website;
• your reliance on information on the website, including descriptions of features or functionality that are still in development;
• any change to, delay in, or decision not to release, any feature or version of LexIA, or any decision about invitations to testing or early access; or
• the unavailability or failure of third-party services on which the website relies.

10.3 To the same extent, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, including loss of profit, income, data or goodwill.

10.4 Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability arising from our gross negligence, intentional misconduct or fraud, or any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or other applicable law that cannot lawfully be limited.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version number and effective date at the top of this page show which version applies. Continued use of the website after a change means you accept the updated terms.
